Islands & Peninsulas

The concept of a kitchen island originates with the traditional kitchen worktable -- a mainstay of kitchens for hundreds of years. With the advent of fitted kitchen cabinets and continuous countertops in the 1930's came the idea to have islands and peninsulas of cabinetry in the kitchen instead of a central worktable. Often a place for cooking as well as quick meals, kids doing homework, paying bills and all manner of other uses, they really are the heart of the kitchen. They can be designed in all shapes and sizes, with cabinetry and countertops that match or contrast with the rest of the kitchen, and at various working heights, too!
