Practical and pleasing, beaded boards have been used in and around the kitchen for everything from walls to wainscotting to cabinet doors for hundreds of years. Of course the styles, woods and finish choices have evolved over the years, from wide old hand-planed boards to modern manufactured MDF sheet paneling. In fact, some of the patterns included in this gallery feature alternate edge profiles, not just a traditional bead, since over the years these choices have varied too.

The curved beadboard cabinet at the right-hand end of the kitchen was inspired by an antique sink base in the historic Castle Tucker house in Wiscasset, ME.
